This simple kitchen crochet pattern creates a pot holder and dishcloth set with contrasting borders. This is an attractive kitchen set for a house warming gift or your own home.









Materials:

•Yarn: Lily Sugar’n Cream 4 Ply (Solids 2.5 oz/70.9 g/Ombres 2 oz/56.7 g) 1 ball of each color makes 2 dishcloths when MC and A are reversed as illustrated.

Pot Holder:
Main Color (MC) 1 ball
Contrast A 1 ball

Dish Cloth:
Main Color (MC) 1 ball
Contrast A 1 ball


•Crochet Hooks: Pot Holder: Size 4.00 mm (U.S. 6) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. Dish Cloth: Size 4.50 mm (U.S. 7) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
Size:
Pot Holder: Finished Size: Approx 8” x 8” [20.5 x 20.5 cm]
Dish Cloth: Finished Size: Approx 11” x 11” [28 x 28 cm]

Gauge:
Pot Holder: 15 sts and 16 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in sc with 4.00 mm hook.
Dish Cloth: 8 loops and 16 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in loop pat with 4.50 mm hook.

Instructions:

Pot Holder: Back: With MC and 4.00 mm hook, ch 29.
Foundation row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Ch 1. Turn. 28 sts.
1st row: 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1. Turn.
This row forms pat.
Cont in pat until work from beg measures approx 8 ins [20.5 cm] ending with RS facing for next row. Do not turn.
Next row: Ch 1. Work 22 sc along side edge, 3 sc in first st of lower edge, 1 sc in each of next 26 sts along lower edge, 3 sc in next st, 22 sts along side edge, 3 sc in first st of top edge, 1 sc in each of next 26 sts along top edge, 3 sc in next st. Ss to 1st ch 1. Fasten off.

Front: With A, work as given for Back.

Edging: With WS tog, proceed as follows:
1st round: Join MC to any st. Working through both thicknesses, work 1 round sc, inc at corners as before. Fasten off.
2nd round: Join A to any st, work 1 round sc, inc at corners as before. Fasten off.
3rd round: With MC work as given for 2nd round.

Dish Cloth: With MC and 4.50 mm hook, ch 42.
Foundation row: (RS). 1 sc in 4th ch from hook. *Ch 2. Miss next ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of ch. Turn. 20 loops.
1st row: Ch 3. *1 sc in next ch 2 loop. Ch 2. Rep from * to last ch 2 loop. 1 sc in ch 3 loop. Turn.
This row forms pat.

Border: With RS facing, join A to ch 3 loop at end of last row.
1st round: Ch 1. *(1 sc. Ch 3. 1 sc) in corner loop - corner made. Ch 2. (1 sc in next loop. Ch 2) 19 times along side. Rep from * 3 times more. Ss to first sc.
2nd round: *Work corner loop. Ch 2. **1 sc in next loop. Ch 2. Rep from ** to next corner. Rep from * 3 times more. Fasten off.
